November has been a month of continued networking by the Sailcargo team. On our mission to restart the construction of Ceiba, we’ve been tapping into funding opportunities, clean shipping communities, and international media outlets.
Ceiba Influences Sustainable Ship Design
We began November at the Sustainability in Ship Design and Operations Conference. Held in New York City, both in person and virtually, the Conference was hosted by a devoted coalition of maritime shipping change makers including the Webb Institute, MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands), and Wind Support NYC.
It was a pleasure to be given this platform and present how Ceiba can fit into the 21st-century fleet. The combination of traditional sailing techniques and an electric motor system to be completely self-sufficient captured the imagination of those in attendance. She will be able to harness the power of the wind whilst offering flexibility and maneuverability not possible with her conventional counterparts.
We were thrilled to present alongside such reputable marine transport organizations such as SINTEF Ocean, DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Martin & Ottaway, Tufton, and more. Presenting at this conference, and others like it, is an integral component of our upward trajectory as a leading sailcargo company.
Taking the Mic with Outrage and Optimism
We were delighted to have been featured as a green shipping solution on Outrage and Optimism’s podcast episode: “Greening Shipping.”
Outrage and Optimism is one of the top-rated climate-change podcasts. From the former UN Chief and the team who brought you the Paris Agreement, this podcast confronts the climate crisis head-on, providing listeners with hard-hitting climate-related news and current affairs. Our Chief Purpose Marketing Officer, Alejandra Teran, spoke to hosts Christina Figueres, Tom Rivett-Carnac, and Paul Dickinson, about how Sailcargo offers a zero-carbon solution to the current impact of the shipping industry. Listen to the podcast at the link below.
Award-Winning Innovation
On November 16th, we won first place in the SACHA Award subcategory for Innovative Use of Wood and Forest Products. This prestigious award, promoted by Costa Rica's Office of National Forestry, honors initiatives and entrepreneurial efforts across Latin America that have a substantial impact on mitigating and adapting to climate change. Over 220 organizations applied across five categories; we were incredibly honored to receive this award for our zero-emission shipping vision and reforestation programs.

Following the announcement, executives and key personnel from Costa Rica’s Office of National Forestry and the SACHA Award Promoting Group came to visit the shipyard and congratulate the team. Big change often starts small. It is always a proud moment to be recognized as a positive catalyst in the wider clean shipping movement.
EuroNews Film Crew Comes to the Shipyard
Towards the end of the month, the filmmaking crew from EuroNews came to capture Ceiba in all her glory as well as those that make it all possible. Some of our boatbuilders very kindly donated their time to help tell the story of Sailcargo and complete some outstanding tasks onboard the ship.
We are always thrilled that such organizations are interested in broadcasting our vision to a new audience. Their commitment to sharing our complete sustainable message was clear and we are looking forward to seeing Ceiba feature across European media networks.
Optimism still remains at the center of Sailcargo and our operations. We look forward to bringing you more construction updates while acknowledging that outreach like this is fundamental to making that happen.
